Walking in a room with leather furniture immediately creates an ambiance and not only the ambiance you intended. In some cases, the ambiance in a living room may scream “bachelor, bachelor”! Other times, it may set the tone of an age gone by when men would retire from supper to the library to play cards, smoke cigars or read. Today, many family home theaters offer leather lounge seating with reclining seats and cup holders that immediately position you for an enjoyable evening of camaraderie and movie watching.
There are companies that specialize in leather furniture such as Arizona Leather. Stepping inside one of their showrooms, you are met by a sales consultant familiar with the different grains of leather, gets pricier as the quality goes up and as you look around at the many different styles to choose from, be prepared to be overwhelmed at the color choices at leather grains that follow. Other companies like Natuzzi leather, a higher end leather furniture line and Jennifer leather, a much lower end furniture line offer leather living room furniture as well, but in much limited quantities. Care And Feeding Of Your Leather Furniture When you purchase your new leather furniture, get information on cleaning your new furniture prior to leaving the store. They may offer you a handout or the store’s website may offer you information on cleaning tips. If your new leather furniture is not already treated, when you first get it, the first thing you want to do is treat your leather furniture with some sort of leather waterproofing product. There are different products that come in aerosols to creams. Check with the manufacturer to see what they recommend as to a good furniture cleaner or conditioner. Once your leather furniture has been treated, should it get dirty, first wipe any loose dirt particles off it with a dry towel. Then using a damp sponge and some mild soapy water, wipe carefully and then dry. Try to avoid dropping anything oily or acidic on the material and should it get wet, immediately clean and dry to avoid stains and darkening of the leather. Damaged Leather Furniture Should you find that your leather furniture is in need of repair. Check with the manufacturer for recommendations or if your furniture is still under warranty. If not, check the yellow pages for furniture repair, leather and check around. After you find some repair places near you, utilize the internet to see if there have been any consumer complaints about the work of the leather repair place. If you can’t find anything and you are concerned about your leather furniture, ask the repair place for references. Any reputable repair place would be glad to provide you with references prior to engaging in work. If they aren’t willing to provide you with any, move on quickly. Why You Should Never By Discount Or Cheap Leather Like anything you buy, you get what you pay for. Buying discount or cheap leather furniture, even if it claims to be from a high-end American or Italian leather company, may be a recipe for disaster. Before you make the purchase, check the piece out carefully. Is the furniture constructed well. Are there any springs out of place. Is the stitching even and well done. How does the leather feel. What does it smell like? Do you see any flaws in the leather grain? Can you see where the hair follicles were? Do your research before you check out the piece. Then inspect the furniture carefully. Bring an unbiased person with you to help you check it out. If it doesn’t seem right, don’t buy it simply because it’s a good deal. It just might not be.
