A pine is a coniferous tree of the genus Pinus. There are anywhere from 105-125 species of pine, which are divided into three subgenera based on characteristics of cone, seed and leaf.
The Strobus are white or soft pines; the Ducampopinus are pinyon, lacebark and bristlecone pines; and the Pinus are yell or hard pines. Commercially, pines are extremely important for their timber and wood pulp because they grow fast and can be planted in dense areas. Although pine is considered a soft wood by furniture makers, the wood itself is quite hard making it easy to work with and its fast growth makes it an affordable wood solution for wood furniture.
