Ethan Allen Interiors Inc. (NYSE: ETH) celebrated its 75th anniversary by ringing The Opening Bells at the New York Stock Exchange on January 25, 2007.
Brief History Founded in 1932 by Theodore Baumritter and Nathan S. Ancell, Ethan Allen Furniture began its life in Beecher Falls, Vermont. In 1962, Ethan Allen Furniture was the first to begin showing furniture in room settings. In 1969, Ethan Allen Furniture went public as Ethan Allen Inc. In 1973, its corporate headquarters was moved to Danbury, Connecticut. In 1979, Ethan Allen merged with Interco and in 1985, Farooq Kathwari was appointed President and subsequently named chairman and CEO of Ethan Allen. In 1989, Kathwari began taking steps to once again take the company private, as he worked to revitalize the company and brand Ethan Allen furnishings were updated to include casual and contemporary styles. In 1993, Ethan Allen went public again and was listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the trading symbol ETH.
