Wade Kincaid, founder of Kincaid Furniture, began his furniture career in 1924, at 14, working for a local furniture company assembling drawers. Working his way up, Kincaid grew up and in 1946, with investments from his father, sister and his own savings, Kincaid started his own company.
Starting small, he began by making cedar chests and wardrobes. There were only 24 employees and daily production was 18 to 20 cases per day. In the late 1940s, a new customer, Grand Piano, asked Kincaid to make a solid mahogany 5-piece bedroom group. They agreed and Kincaid Furniture has been making bedroom furniture ever since. As the company continued to grow, they introduced a line of dining room furniture. In 1983, in order to manage the tremendous amount of company growth and meet customer demand, Kincaid Furniture went public on July 22. Thanks to the influx in investment capital, furniture-manufacturing facilities were built and modernized. In fact, Plant #6, which was completed in 1985, became a model for the furniture industry. A year later, a hostage takeover was underway and to avoid this, Kincaid Furniture approached La-Z-Boy Furniture for assistance. La-Z-Boy agreed and Kincaid Furniture became a part of the La-Z-Boy family in 1987. In 1996, Kincaid Furniture launched its first licensed collection in conjunction with Ducks Unlimited. This collection allowed for more direct competition with non-solid wood manufacturers. In 1999, Kincaid Furniture bought Alexvale Furniture Co. and entered the upholstered furniture market. In 2000, Kincaid tied upholstery to its largest collection in company history with the introduction of Laura Ashley Home. Kincaid Furniture Company runs the gamut of furniture for the bedroom, living room, dining room, home office, home entertainment and home accessories. As one of the leaders in wood furniture manufacturing, Kincaid furnishings are beautiful and functional. Compared to many other furniture companies, their furniture designs are like a breath of fresh air for the ingenuity of design and heirloom quality. All Kincaid wood furniture is made from solid wood construction, no veneer. Case construction features mortise and tenon joints; all Kincaid construction features include dovetailed drawer guides and drawer construction, heavy front posts for additional stability and strength; adjustable guides, finger joints, raised panel doors and bed panels; fully floating tops, end panels and bed panels; and solid wood edges.
